Looking Back on our Success in 2016

2016 was a big year for #CRE and business development in Frisco.

 

The Star in Frisco Opening 

On August 27, 2016, Frisco saw the first-of-its-kind public-private partnership between the Dallas Cowboys, the City of Frisco and Frisco ISD come to fruition as The Ford Center at the Star in Frisco opened its doors along Frisco’s $5 Billion Mile

More than 20 retail tenants have been announced for The Star along with corporate tenants in the Dallas Cowboys’ HQ building including Bank of America and FM Global. The Jones Family and Dallas entrepreneur Rob Wechsler also announced the launch of Blue Star Accelerator, the first of its kind accelerator and investment venture for early stage businesses in the technology, sports, and entertainment industries is coming to The Star.  

The 300-room Omni Hotel rose into Frisco’s skyline this year with an opening in 2017. Baylor Scott & White Sports Therapy & Research at The Star is also taking shape. The partnership with the Dallas Cowboys will result in a 300,000 sq. ft. facility that is a game-changer for sports medicine, performance and research.

 

HALL Park Upgrades & Expansion

HALL Group reimagined its award-winning 162-acre, 16-building office park this year, embarking on a property-wide refresh that will add modern amenities and a 17th office building.

 

Jamba Juice Relocation from California to Frisco’s HALL Park 

Jamba Juice chose to reenergize its vibrant brand from a new corporate headquarters in Frisco, thanks to the city’s attractive cost of living, exceptional talent pool and innovative office space in HALL Park.

 

Groundbreaking of Frisco Station  

Construction began on 242-acre Frisco Station, one of the mixed-use developments in Frisco’s $5 Billion Mile. VanTrust Real Estate is developing a 228,000 sq. ft., Class A, spec office building. NewcrestImage is developing a lifestyle hotel campus bringing four brands and 600 hotel rooms, and Frisco Station partners has engaged Hillwood Multifamily, LLP to develop the 300-unit urban living community called Station House.

 

Groundbreaking of Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children – North Campus  

Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children broke ground on its North Campus in Frisco October 19. Expected to open in fall 2018, the five-story, 345,000-square-foot campus will have a footprint of approximately 10 acres. The hospital is hoping to fulfill a growing need for patient care in the rapidly growing area of North Texas.

 

University of North Texas – New College at Frisco  

The University of North Texas officially opened its New College at Frisco in Hall Park with a collaborative learning environment instead of traditional classrooms. The satellite campus is training the workforce of the future through use of the latest technology and engagement with industry leaders. In August, the university’s Criminal Justice Department announced the opening of a cellphone cyber security lab where students work with area law enforcement to analyze data to digitally solve crime.

The Frisco EDC’s 25th Anniversary 

All of 2016 was a walk down memory lane of sorts, as the Frisco EDC celebrated its 25th anniversary by honoring citizens and leaders who helped Frisco grow from a small farming community to the booming center of global commerce that it is today.
